Council outlines schools spending
ONE of the country’s largest councils has outlined multi-million pound plans to improve its school estate.
Edinburgh City Council said it had committed £7 million to building a new St John’s RC Primary and £6.38m for a new St Crispin’s Special School.
A further £618,000 is being set aside to begin work on a new secondary school in Craigmillar, expected to open in 2020.
Parents are fighting to save Castlebrae Community High School in Craigmillar, which has been earmarked for closure.
Meanwhile, a record 89.9 per cent of school leavers in Scotland are going into work, training or education upon leaving school, according to new figures. The data, collected from schools and local authorities and published by Skills Development Scotland, also show a rise in the number of school leavers going to university.
