More women on Standard Life’s board

THE proportion of women on Standard Life’s board rose to a third yesterday following its latest non-executive appointment.

Noel Harwerth, a US and UK citizen, sits on the boards of a number of companies including RSA Insurance and GE Capital.

She will receive £70,000 a year in fees along with an additional £25,000 as chair of the board’s risk and capital committee.

Chairman Gerry Grimstone said Harwerth will bring a “strong contribution to the board’s discussions with her experience of risk management and financial services”.

Harwerth has previously been a director of Anglo-Irish Bank, Corus Group, London Underground and the Tote.

She has also held posts as chief tax officer and chief operating officer at Citibank International.
