Glasgow Airport posted the fastest growth in passenger numbers during June for any of operator BAA’s sites.

A total of 734,000 travellers passed through the airport during the month, up 4.5 per cent year-on-year.

In the first set of figures since completing the £807 million sale of Edinburgh airport to Gatwick owner Global Infrastructure Partners, BAA said Aberdeen airport saw a 1.3 per cent increase year-on-year, with just under 292,000 passengers flying from its terminal despite weather disruptions.

Passenger numbers at Heathrow hit 6.2 million, up 1.6 per cent, to give a record for the month of June thanks to new links to the Bric economies.

Stansted fell 3.4 per cent to 1.6 million and Southampton dropped 7.5 per cent to 164,000.
