Despite Celtic’s 4-0 win over Motherwell, Smith’s men would win the title by a point, 93 to 92.

Few would have envisaged that nearly nine years later – 3,250 days – the club are still waiting not just for their 55th league title, but for a major trophy of any sort following their liquidation the following year.

Former Ibrox winger Gregg Wylde shared a photo of the dressing room celebrations from that day at Rugby Park which had Rangers fans reminiscing.

It included a host of club legends or greats, as well as a number of players many would have forgotten, or liked to have forgotten, played for Rangers. All the while many are gripping onto a can of Tennent’s.

One fans tweeted: “Seeing Sir Walter with a can of lager has made my day”.
