Balfour Beatty wins £125m Scottish roads contract

Infrastructure group Balfour Beatty has secured a long-term contract, worth more than £125 million, to manage and maintain more than 440 miles of trunk roads in south-west Scotland.

Perth-based Scotland TranServ, a joint venture between Balfour and Mouchel, will replace current contractor Amey on 1 April. The deal, worth around £25m a year, initially runs for five years, with the potential for a five-year extension.

Balfour chief executive Ian Tyler said: “We are delighted to have been selected by the Scottish ministers to deliver this contract to maintain roads on routes vital to the country’s economy.”

Scotland TranServ currently oversees 814 miles of trunk roads in the north-west, but will be replaced by rival Bear Scotland in April.
