FANS may have been left in the dark when a power cut at the New Orleans Superdome halted Sunday’s SuperBowl clash between the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers, but it has emerged that Scottish power provider Aggreko managed to keep the lights on for broadcasters.

The Glasgow-based group has now provided power for 23 Super Bowls and its back-up generators supplied enough energy for 6,000 homes – making sure everything ran smoothly for national and international media, as well as the half-time show starring Beyoncé, right.

Seymour Pierce analyst Caroline de La Soujeole said: “The power which went off was the stadium power, provided by Entergy, which was not backed up. If anything, this incident serves as a reminder of the need for back-up power at such high-profile sporting events.”

A statement from Entergy and the Superdome said equipment had sensed an “abnormality” in the electrical system and opened a breaker, partially cutting power.
