175 consutrction jobs axed at Donaghy
GOVAN was dealt a second blow in as many days yesterday when 175 jobs were axed at construction firm Donaghy.
While administrators pored over the books at Rangers, liquidators from accountancy firm KPMG moved in to sell the assets at Donaghy, which listed housebuilders Miller, Stewart Milne and Taylor Wimpey among its clients.
Blair Nimmo, joint provisional liquidator and head of restructuring for KPMG in Scotland, said the company had enjoyed a “strong reputation” but had been hit by the wider downturn in the construction sector.
“Regrettably, we had no option but to close the business and to make most of the employees redundant.”
Only ten members of staff have been kept on to help the liquidators sell the company’s equipment and other assets.
Nimmo said the firm was working on about 30 sites across the Central Belt when it fell into liquidation and that KPMG will complete the contracts or transfer them to other companies.
