British tennis ace Andy Murray will have to wait to complete the biggest match of his career after play was suspended tonight.
Click here for a slideshowHe and opponent Rafael Nadal were sent home from the Billie Jean King National Tennis Centre, New York, as the US Open semi-final was halted due to rain.
The match had been scheduled to take place in the Arthur Ashe Stadium following the first semi-final of the day between Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic but with tropical storm Hanna fast approaching the New York area, Murray and Nadal were switched to the second show court in the Louis Armstrong Stadium.
Less than an hour later all play was suspended due to the weather.
Victory for Murray would make him the first Briton since Greg Rusedski in 1997 to reach a Grand Slam final.
The 21-year-old Scot was leading US Open top seed Nadal two sets to love when play stopped.
He has not beaten the Spaniard in any of their five meetings to date, and had not won a set against him since their first encounter at the 2007 Australian Open, most recently losing in the Wimbledon quarter-finals and in Toronto.
Regardless of the result in New York, the British number one, will move up two places in the world rankings to number four.
The semi-final follows Murray's dramatic win over the Argentinian Juan Martin Del Potro.
In the last year Murray has secured three tournament victories, including his first Masters Series success in Cincinnati, as well as wins over both Federer and Djokovic.
He said: "I think how you do in Slams is how you're remembered in tennis, and I wanted to improve my record in them.
"I've definitely done that this year and hopefully I can do it in the next match."
Suspension of play means the women's final between Serena Williams and Jelena Jankovic will now be played tomorrow, with every possibility that the men's final may be rescheduled for Monday.
