Young guns down Livingston to mark comeback
Livingston 0 Dundee 1 (Young 61)
FOR Darren Young, his delight was understandable. Making his first start in a year, the Dundee midfielder banished his injury demons to net a second-half winner. The former Aberdeen player has been plagued by problems since his arrival from Dunfermline last summer, restricting him to just three sub appearances, but he made up for lost time yesterday.
A tame contest appeared destined to finish goalless before Young netted after Roddy McKenzie had parried Mickael Antoine-Curier's header.
Livingston were left to rue their ill-fortune after Liam Fox twice struck the post with long-range strikes either side of the interval. The visitors were let off the hook in the opening half as Livi's 20-goal Leigh Griffiths posed the greatest threat.
Armand One had troubled Rab Douglas with a low 16th-minute drive, before a delightful back-heel from the Frenchman set his teenage strike partner racing through on goal. However, just as Griffiths was about to pull back his prolific left boot he stumbled and the chance had gone.
The hosts' late first-half flurry raised excitement levels, with Fox unfortunate not to break the stalemate when his piercing attempt cannoned off the post with Douglas rooted.
Fox then came close again when he curled against the right post. Reprieved, Young capitalised to take the points north with Gary MacKenzie's late dismissal not proving costly.
