Yeats family prove poetry in motion at Meadowbank

IT WAS a family affair at Meadowbank Velodrome last night, with Nick Yeats (Edinburgh RC) and his cycling daughters Rosie and Eliza all chalking up points in the latest round of the National Track League.

Of the three, it was seven-year-old Eliza, riding for Edinburgh Racers, who fared best with wins in the youth handicap and the block handicap events.

Her big sister was third in the first of those races and second after failing to catch her younger sibling in the latter.

Dad also scored well, with a second-place finish behind league leader Bruce Croall (City of Edinburgh) in the opening event of the night, the 20-lap scratch and third place behind the hugely impressive Croall in the Keirin.

Showman Pete Jacques (City of Edinburgh) produced a grandstand finish to clinch the Devil from Andy Laing (Musselburgh RCC) on the line, while Sandy Wallace (Sandy Wallace Cycles) showed that he has not lost the taste for winning in his early 60s.

The women's events featured a win for Daisy Sherwood (City of Edinburgh) in the Keirin and a sprint victory for Alison Chisholm (Edinburgh RC) ahead of her team mate Maddy Robinson, who had suffered a nasty crash earlier in the evening.
