Wolves lose in Manchester

GRIDIRON team Edinburgh Wolves had a tough opening to the 2009 season, losing 27-0 at Manchester Titans yesterday.

The Wolves managed to block two extra point kicks before holding the Titans in the second half but it wasn't enough to overcome the lead built up at half-time.

Wolves were hit by injuries, but Titans were well organised and took control early when their defence added their own score after intercepting a batted ball and returning it to the endzone.

The Edinburgh offence showed their own flashes of brilliance but a few silly penalties robbed them of any chance to score.

Wolves head coach Don Edmonston said: "In the second half we made adjustments but we couldn't quite reach the endzone. Last year our season got off on the wrong foot but we turned it around and pulled off some great results. I think we can do even better this year."

Wolves host the new Inverness team at Meadowbank Stadium on Sunday May 17. Kick-off 2.30pm.
