Will Johnston in position to tri, tri again
EDINBURGH'S Will Johnston, winner of June's Blenheim Triathlon, has been selected for British triathlon's Performance Programme for 2010.
He is now in the Olympic Talent squad along with contemporaries, Andrew Hood (Cupar), Cameron Milne (Kinross) and Peter Anderson (Laurencekirk).
All four are already part of triathlonscotland's performance squad and supported through the Scottish Area Institute of Sport network. They showed the depth of talent north of the Border earlier this year when they took a clean sweep of the medals at the Eton Youth Triathlon.
Johnston said: "This is the first rung of the performance squad and always a target of mine so it means a lot. Although it won't change dramatically how I train up here, there will be training camps throughout the year, with access to different coaches, and it will be a great help for finding things like sponsorship."
"It's very encouraging for Scotland that we have so many good athletes," added Johnston, who finished the season's British Youth Series in second place behind Milne.
"In the last year, I've become stronger and my skills have become better as a result of Chris Volley's (National Performance coach) coaching and the work I do with the East Institute. All four of us have has made improvements, we are all moving forwards and it's a lot more competitive than last year."
