Wait is finally over for golden girl Jessica Ennis
Jessica Ennis was today beginning her bid for heptathlon gold in the European Championships, but for once could find herself upstaged on a frantic Friday in Barcelona.
The evening session in the Olympic Stadium will feature ten finals, with Britain assured finalists in seven of those, and almost certainly eight, with William Sharman and Andy Turner first contesting the semi-finals of the 110 metre hurdles.
The 24-year-old Ennis was contesting the 100m hurdles - her best event - and high jump this morning, with the shot put and 200m following tonight.
The men's 200m could be a source of medals with Marlon Devonish and Christian Malcolm in good form on their way to the final, while there are three British men in the final of the 1,500m. Andy Baddeley, Tom Lancashire and Colin McCourt have medal chances.
World championship bronze medallist Jenny Meadows and Jemma Simpson should also be in the shake up in the women's 800m, while Perri Shakes-Drayton and Scotland's Eilidh Child are outside medal hopes in the 400m hurdles.
