Volleyball: City side remain unbeaten with impressive win in west
City of Edinburgh opened the defence of the John Syer Volleyball Trophy with an impressive 25-17, 25-16, 25-19 win over City of Glasgow Ragazzi in Coltness.
The Capital side dominated from the start with their tough serving and solid blocking.
Ragazzi, who were missing former Great Britain squad player Jonny Herley, briefly rallied in the second set after an injury to Edinburgh’s Mike Penny forced a time-out, but they could not turn the match.
Edinburgh, who have again rebuilt their squad, remain unbeaten in league or cup.
Edinburgh Jets won the first set against league champions Kilmarnock Blaze in their tie, but eventually went down 25-19, 20-25, 19-25, 24-26.
In the women’s competition, holders Edinburgh Jets comfortably came through their first match 25-16, 25-17, 25-6 away to South Ayrshire.
NUVOC made life difficult for league champions City of Edinburgh, particularly in the first set, but eventually went down in straight sets 24-26, 16-25, 15-25.
Non-league Edinburgh University made a winning debut in the Scottish Cup as they shocked Dundee 25-13, 23-25, 25-23, 25-11 away from home.
