Volleyball: City aim to stay unbeaten
City OF EDINBURGH seek to keep their unblemished record when they return to Schelde Sports Scottish Volleyball League action at Dundee tomorrow.
Player-coach Barry McGuigan concedes it is likely to be Christmas before his side are firing on all cylinders, but it has been a decent start to the campaign so far.
Along with leaders Kilmarnock Blaze, City are the only unbeaten side in the men’s first division and had a confidence-boosting win at City of Glasgow Ragazzi in the John Syer Trophy last weekend.
That victory came at a price when Scotland hitter Mike Penny suffered an ankle injury which could sideline him for several weeks.
Edinburgh do not face Kilmarnock until December 8 and, if they can remain unbeaten until then, it would leave them with a decent shot at regaining the league title.
Edinburgh Jets host Ragazzi tomorrow at Broughton High School as they seek to maintain their challenge.
In the women’s first division, NUVOC face a trip to unbeaten Team Troon Ayrshire at Marr College, Edinburgh travel to face North Lanarkshire, who took a set off a weakened Troon team in the John Syer Trophy last Saturday, and fourth-placed Edinburgh Jets host Su Ragazzi.
