Vigilance plea after Bent racist abuse
CAMPAIGNERS against racism in football say the alleged abuse of Darren Bent's mother during Sunderland's 1-0 defeat at Wigan shows the sport has a problem. After the match, Bent wrote on Twitter: "So we get beaten by Wigan and, to make matters worse, my Mum gets racially abused by a Sunderland fan. I won't stand for that."
Kick It Out director Piara Powar said:
"We need to make sure we are vigilant so that these incidents are policed out of the game."
