Uefa cup draw: Manchester City destined for trip to Faroe Islands

MANCHESTER City will travel to the Faroe Islands in the first qualifying round of the Uefa Cup having been pitted against Streymur in yesterday's draw.

City, who have spent the summer pursuing Barcelona's Ronaldinho, visit the remote province of Denmark for the first-leg match on 17 July. The return leg is on 31 July, at Championship club Barnsley's stadium. The City of Manchester Stadium – which could fit the Faroe population of around 48,000 people – is unavailable because the turf is being relaid after hosting a Bon Jovi concert.

Manchester City only finished ninth in the Premier League but earned the extra place in the tournament awarded to England through the Uefa Fair Play league. Hertha Berlin also entered the competition through a Fair Play award after finishing 10th in the Bundesliga and will play Moldova's Nistru Otaci.

Bangor City will play the first leg of their Uefa Cup first qualifying round tie with Midtjylland at Wrexham's Racecourse Ground.

As Bangor's ground does not meet UEFA standards, the Danish club's agreement to reverse the home and away legs allowed them to confirm the 17 July leg for Wrexham.
