Twiston-Davies keeps form with long-distance double
GRAND National winning trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies is enjoying a rattling good season and the handler added to his total with a long-distance double at Cheltenham and Doncaster yesterday.
His enigmatic charge Knowhere won the big race of the day, the 100,000 Letheby and Christopher Chase at Cheltenham, before Battlecry prevailed in the Albert Bartlett novice' hurdle on Town Moor. Battlecry relished soft going at Doncaster to land his race by two lengths from Coe.
Also at Cheltenham, Dual Ladbrokes World Hurdle hero Inglis Drever landed his third course success with an impressive win in the Byrne Group Cleeve Hurdle.
Ridden for the first time by Richard Johnson, Howard Johnson's runner powered ahead of Blazing Bailey.
Back at Doncaster, David Pipe and punters alike were celebrating after An Accordion landed a gamble in the 75,000 Sky Bet Chase. Backed into 11-2 favourite, An Accordion was given an energetic ride by Johnny Farrelly to get back up and collar Ungaro just before the line.
Conditions are set to be testing at Kelso for today's John Smith's No Nonsense Raceday, with groundsman Brian Meikle having altered the bends to bring fresh ground into play.
There are seven races at the Borders track, starting at 1.05pm, and Harry Hogarth's Shrewd Investor is a confident choice in the main sponsors' novices chase off at 2.05pm.
