Twell marks Scots debut with win in Gateshead
ATHLETICS: Steph Twell is targeting a first major title at next month's European Cross Country Championships after winning on her Scotland debut in Gateshead.
The 20-year-old Olympian cruised to a comfortable victory in Saturday's McCain 8K Challenge event in 28.25 minutes on her first outing in a Scottish vest since switching allegiance from England earlier this year.
"I had a lot of crowd support out on the course and when I put my kit on this morning I thought 'this looks good, I feel ready'," Twell said. "I wanted to run in the vest in style and I hope I've done well for Scotland."
Scottish team-mate Morag McLarty finished 11th with Rosie Smith 19th.
