Third division: Rovers rise to the top with impressive Cliftonthill showing
Albion Rovers 3 East Stirlingshire 0
ALBION Rovers rose to the summit of the Third Division after a convincing 3-0 win against East Stirling at Cliftonhill.
Marc Pollock fired Rovers ahead inside 13 minutes, and 10 minutes later they doubled their lead when David McFarlane capitalised on some sloppy Shire defending to finish powerfully.
Shortly before the interval, the hosts sealed the points when McFarlane added his second from a Pollock cross.
East Stirling were handed the perfect chance to launch a comeback but Jamie Stevenson's penalty was smartly saved by Derek Gaston after Rovers' Michael McGowan had handled in the box.
Berwick Rangers 0 Forfar Athletic 1
BERWICK Rangers surrendered their position as leaders after falling to a 1-0 defeat against Forfar at Shielfield Park.
The match was severely hampered by the swirling North Sea winds as neither side made much of an attacking impression in the opening period.
After the break, Forfar continued to pose an attacking threat and were awarded a penalty in the 65th minute when the lively David Mowat was tripped.
Ross Campbell stepped up to slam the ball past goalkeeper Mark Peat and earn his side a precious three points.
Stranraer 0 Elgin City 2
ELGIN City made sure the mammoth journey to Stranraer was not in vein as they emerged with a 2-0 victory.
An early goal from Michael Dunn and a Jason Crooks' 53rd minute penalty helped Elgin to their first win of the season.
The game between Montrose and Queen's Park was called off due to high winds.
