Third Division: Coughlin new boys beat former club Berwick
STENHOUSEMUIR increased their lead to four points at the top of the table with a 2-0 victory over Berwick Rangers . It was expected to be the fiery contest of the weekend with home boss John Coughlin facing his old team for the first time and the two clubs falling out during the summer over the transfer of players, however it was a relatively low-key contest compared to events elsewhere.
Defender John Ovenstone headed home a Kevin Motion corner in 20 minutes to put Coughlin's men ahead and the Warriors sealed victory when Motion was brought down in the box with 14 minutes to go and Scott Dalziel scored.
Dumbarton leapfrogged visitors Cowdenbeath after a dramatic end to the 'Raise the Rock' supporters' day at Strathclyde Homes Stadium. Derek Carcary opened the scoring from the edge of the box in 36 minutes but Paul McQuade looked to have grabbed a point with a 90th-minute equaliser. However, centre-back Ben Gordon netted five minutes into injury time to grab all the points for the home side.
Albion Rovers recorded their best victory this season with a 6-1 triumph at Elgin City in a match that featured hat-tricks for both Kevin Watt and Bobby Barr, while David Niven, Craig Campbell and Kenny Gilbert were sent off for Elgin.
Unbeaten Montrose are now in second place with Jim Weir's side seeing off East Stirling thanks to goals from Scott Anson, Jamie Buchan and Kevin Bradley, while
Forfar won on their travels again, beating Annan Athletic 3-1.
