Third Division: Arbroath loss maintains seven-way title battle
SEVEN teams still have legitimate title claims after leaders Arbroath lost 3-2 at Elgin City
Keith Gibson headed the visitors in front after 52 minutes, but Elgin turned things around and surged 3-1 ahead.
Jason Crooks restored parity on the hour, Mark Nicholson fired in a fierce volley on 74 minutes and Ross O'Donoghue scored the third shortly afterwards. Arbroath's Adam Strachan netted to force a grandstand finish but Elgin hung on..
Second-placed Stranraer lost 4-2 at bottom side Clyde, who had veteran Charlie Miller in their ranks for the first time.
Albion Rovers were defeated 1-0 by Berwick Rangers, where Craig O'Reilly grabbed the only goal with a first-half header to keep alive the seventh-placed Borderers' hopes of being involved at the end of the season.
Queen's Park made it eight wins in nine games when they defeated hosts Montrose 2-0, with defenders Darryl Meggat and Paul McGinn both netting their first goals for the Hampden club.
Ironically despite their great run, the amateur side will drop out of the promotion places if Annan win tomorrow night against Berwick Rangers after they hauled themselves back into the promotion shake-up with a 2-1 win over East Stirling.
East Stirlingshire went in front just before the hour mark when Kevin Cawley netted and when Annan's Aaron Muirhead was dismissed after a clash with Scott Johnston it looked as though Jim McInally's side were in line for a morale boosting three points.
However, Annan rallied with Bryan Gilifillan grabbing an equaliser and Kevin Neilson heading home the winner.
