Third division: Arbroath edge closer to elusive first silverware
Arbroath took a major step towards the first-ever silverware in the club's history as they defeated Clyde 3-0 at Broadwood on Saturday.
Marc McCusker gave the visitors an early scare when he struck a post before Keith Gibson and former Clyde captain Adam Strachan scored from close range to have Paul Sheerin's side two up before the midway point of the first half.
Another former Clyde player, David McGowan made it three when he came off the bench to score with 19 minutes left.
The situation at the top will become clearer tomorrow night when the Angus side look to add to their existing four-point advantage when they meet Clyde to use up their game in hand on their challengers.
Annan remain in second place after they cancelled out Albion Rovers in Coatbridge - a result that hurt both sides in terms of their title challenges. The Galabank men will probably feel the most aggrieved as they had an Ian Harty goal chalked off after initially being given by referee Neil Watters.
It would appear that Harty had been offside when the ball was initially launched upfield.
Fourth-placed Stranraer remain on course for the play-offs after their 2-0 win over East Stirling which maintained a four-point cushion over nearest challengers Queen's Park. Recent signing Ryan Kennedy converted a Scott Agnew corner in the first half, for his first ever senior goal, and Sean Winter did likewise shortly into the second half to seal the win.
Queen's Park kept hold of the coat-tails of promotion play-off place with Jamie Longworth's strike five minutes after half time proving decisive against Elgin in their 1-0 win.
Montrose's bright spell under new boss Ray Farningham continued as they won 1-0 at Shielfield to all but end Berwick's interest in promotion.
Terry Masson fired home what proved to be the winning goal from 20 yards.
