Third Division Round-Up

Annan Athletic 4 East Stirlingshire 0

RESURGENT Annan scored twice in each half with Mike Jack hitting a double to gain ground on East Stirling in the race for play-off spots.

Graham Bell opened their account with a glancing header. Jack was then fouled by defender Craig Tully two minutes from the break and converted the spot kick himself.

Scott Anson, on loan from Kilmarnock, broke clear to make it three after 83 minutes and Jack added further gloss in injury time.

Berwick Rangers 1

Dumbarton 2

DUMBARTON maintained their promotion push with a win at struggling Berwick yesterday.

Paul McLeod caught home keeper Ryan McGurk napping with an inch-perfect lob but Stuart Callaghan soon levelled for the Borderers from 25 yards.

The Sons re-took the lead shortly before half time through Derek Carcary with McGurk again out of position.

Berwick's Fraser Forrest was sent off after picking up two yellow cards.

Cowdenbeath 2

Albion Rovers 1

COWDENBEATH surged five points clear at the top after a comfortable 2-1 victory over Albion Rovers at Central Park.

The leaders forged ahead in the 21st minute, with a goal on the break. Brian Fairbairn and John Dempster combined to set up John Gemmill to score.

Gemmill grabbed his second in the 38th minute.

The visitors got back into the game three minutes later. After Bobby Walker was fouled in the box, Ian Harty scored from the spot.

Stenhousemuir 1

Montrose 3

MONTROSE ended Stenny's unbeaten home run with a surprise 3-1 win at Ochilview.

The visitors opened the scoring in bizarre fashion in the 21st minute. John Ovenstone's attempted sliding clearance caught his own keeper Scott Bennett cold and went into the net.

Kevin Motion got the Warriors an equaliser 15 minutes later but Roddy Hunter headed Montrose in front on 47 minutes and the same player wrapped up the points on 75 minutes.
