Third Division: Annan thwart leaders' bid to push on
STENHOUSEMUIR had the chance to extend their lead at the top of the Third Division with their nearest challengers all idle, however they endured a frustrating afternoon at Ochilview with Annan Athletic securing a goalless draw.
Paul Tyrrell went closest for John Coughlin's men with a long-range volley and veteran Derek Townsley had a good chance for the visitors only to send in a weak header in a match of few chances.
Coughlin, who has seen his side pick up only five points from the last five league games, said: "I am sure Cowdenbeath and Dumbarton will be happier than I am. It was disappointing as we did not create enough chances throughout the game and never got out of third gear."
Jimmy Crease continues to work his managerial magic as ten-man Berwick Rangers made it four wins in a row by defeating visitors Montrose 3-2 and are only six points off fourth. They may yet challenge for the promotion play-off places although they secured victory the hard way on Saturday.
The visitors led at half-time courtesy of Stephen Black and Hugh Davidson goals, and when player/coach Ian Little was dismissed for a challenge on Davidson at the start of the second half, it looked like Links Park Director of Football Kenny Black was going to secure the first win of his caretaker period.
However, goals from Stuart Callaghan, Chris McMenamin and Darren Gribben in the last quarter of the game turned things around totally to leave Crease saying: "I had some harsh words at half-time."
The games at Albion Rovers, Cowdenbeath and Dumbarton all fell victim to the frost.
