McGregor open to contract talks

Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor has welcomed the prospect of negotiating a longer term contract at the club with new owner Craig Whyte. The Scotland international, whose current deal with the Scottish champions expires in the summer of 2013, expressed his surprise at Whyte's weekend comments which stated the club would have been forced to sell the 29-year-old this summer if his takeover had not been successfully concluded. Dane on way back to Celtic

Misfit Celtic striker Morten Rasmussen looks certain to return to Parkhead after his loan period at Aalborg. The 26-year-old had hoped to sign with his old club AGF Aarhus but they cannot afford him, and with two years left on his Celtic deal, he expects to return to Glasgow. (Daily Record)

McInnes rejects Brentford move

Derek McInnes is to remain as St Johnstone manager after turning down an offer from npower League One side Brentford. McInnes confirmed this week that he had spoken to Brentford about the vacancy created when Andy Scott departed Griffin Park in February. (The Scotsman)

• St Johnstone defender Michael Duberry has admitted he is likely to leave the club this summer so he can spend more time with his family in England. (Daily Record)

Scots in contention for Swindon job

Gus McPherson and John Hughes are set to compete with Celtic hero Paolo di Canio for the vacant managerial position at Swindon Town. The former St Mirren manager and the ex-Hibs boss, along with di Canio, will be interviewed by the club later this week. They sacked Paul Hart earlier this month after being relegated to League Two. Aberdeen make improved offer to Maguire

Craig Brown has revealed Aberdeen have upped their contract offer to Chris Maguire - and warned the striker he would be taking a backward step if he went to the Championship. The 22-year-old, who is being tracked by a host of English clubs, has so far rejected the club's offers. (Daily Record)

• Aberdeen have had Coventry midfielder Isaac Osborne on trial. The 24-year-old's contract has run out at City after six years with the club. (The Sun)

Reid optimistic about new season

Hamilton Accies manager Billy Reid has declared himself excited about the new season and claimed relegation might be a necessary evil to keep his club progressing. After three seasons - their longest spell in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League - Accies were relegated after Tuesday's 1-0 defeat by St Johnstone. (The Scotsman)

Hearts make first profit since 1999

Hearts will today announce financial results which show the club has made a profit for the first time since 1999. The size of the profit is understood to be modest, certainly in comparison with the club's multi-million-pound debt, but staff are confident the results for the year ended 31 July 2010 represent a step in the right direction. • Roy Aitken has been sacked by Dubai side Al-Ahli after just eight months. The former Celtic star was assistant to David O'Leary, who has also been axed.

• Falkirk manager Steven Pressley will launch an appeal against a five-match touchline ban handed out by the Scottish Football Association yesterday.

• Clyde manager Jim Duffy has begun work on reshaping his squad for next season by announcing that 13 players, including former Scotland and Rangers player Charlie Miller are leaving the club.

• St Mirren manager Danny Lennon does not believe his position is under threat despite a community-based consortium working on a takeover of the Paisley club.
