Tennis: Another ace achievement for young Capital stars

  • by BILL LOTHIAN

Craiglockhart tennis prospects Jacob Fearnley and Anastasia Mikheeva have received a double boost within the space of a week.

After receiving recognition at the annual Scottish Tennis awards for most promising boy and girl players, Jacob and Anastasia are among six up-and-comings from Edinburgh included on the AEGON Future Stars programme.

The other recipients of
support are Jacob Croll, eight, Alexandra Hunter, 12, Alexander Mikheev, 11, and Millie Stretton, 15.

The citation for 11-year-old Jacob’s Miquel Award from Tennis Scotland refers to “a young player with a real love for the Game” and highlights the fact he has won several Grade Three events and reached the later stages of several Grade Two events over the past 12 months. Jacob has also received GB recognition, regularly attending training camps.

The DR RL Allan Memorial Trophy went to 13-year-old Anastasia for making “the transition from under-12 to under-14 seamlessly winning Tennis Europe events in Holland, Israel and Norway, winning the Scottish Junior under-16 Open and under-18 titles and reaching the final of the under-18 Aegon Junior International,
Edinburgh.”
