Jamie Murray and his new partner Bruno Soares are through to the semi-finals of the men’s doubles at the Australian Open.

In their first Grand Slam tournament playing together, Murray and Soares beat the 13th seeds Raven Klaasen of South Africa and Rajeev Ram of the US 6-7 (3-7), 6-4, 7-6 (7-3).

Scotland’s Murray and Brazilian Soares – the seventh seeds – will now meet the French duo Adrian Mannarino and Lucas Pouille in the semi-finals.

Mannarino and Pouille were surprise winners over top seeds Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau in three sets.

Murray reached the final of two Grand Slam events last season, Wimbledon and the US Open, with former partner John Peers.

Jamie Murray’s younger brother Andy plays in the men’s singles quarter-finals in Melbourne on Wednesday against David Ferrer of Spain.
