Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares teamed up to win the Aegon
Championships doubles title at Queen’s Club yesterday, beating French pair Julien Benneteau and Edourd Roger-Vasselin in the final.

After brother Andy Murray’s shock first-round exit in the singles on Tuesday, Jamie took up the British mantle by overcoming Benneteau and Roger-Vasselin 6-2, 6-3 alongside Brazilian Soares. “What with Andy winning the singles five times it was nice that maybe I could take over for one year,” joked Jamie.

Jamie’s victory – his first title at Queen’s Club in 11 attempts – came on the same day that his mother, Judy, revealed that she believes her two sons will one day team up to try and win a Wimbledon doubles title.

Andy and Jamie led Britain to Davis Cup glory in 2015 but rarely team up on the circuit, largely due to Andy’s singles commitments.

“I’m pretty sure before they get to the end of their careers they’re going to have a crack at Wimbledon doubles together,” Judy said. “At the moment, while they’re happy and healthy, they’re happy doing their own thing – but I’m pretty sure you’ll see them playing Wimbledon together before they end their careers.”
