Elena Baltacha is one of six wildcard entries for the women’s singles at Wimbledon.

Baltacha and fellow Britons Anne Keothavong, Johanna Konta, Tara Moore and Samantha Murray will join Germany’s Andrea Petkovic at SW19 following an announcement from the All England Club yesterday.

Teenager Kyle Edmund is one of two Brits to be handed wildcards for the men’s singles, with James Ward also on the list.

Edmund, 18, claimed the boy’s doubles title at the French Open last week and impressed in his first-round defeat to 16th seed Grega Zemlja at the AEGON Championships at Queen’s earlier this week. Ward, who was a semi-finalist at Queen’s in 2011, took Ivan Dodig to three sets following his wildcard appearance this week and both will now be in the draw at Wimbledon. Dan Evans, who is in the third round at Queen’s, will have to qualify.

Australian Matthew Ebden, who won the mixed doubles at the Australian Open earlier this year, and Nicolas Mahut, Andy Murray’s opponent at Queen’s yesterday, were also granted wildcard entries.

Edmund is also a wildcard for the men’s doubles, with Scot Jamie Baker, while Ebden is named with the experienced Jamie Delgado. British duo David Rice and Sean Thornley are also included. All-British women’s pairs Keothavong and Konta, Moore and Melanie South, Murray and Jade Windley and Nicola Slater and Lisa Whybourn were all also given wildcard entries.
