Changing room chat: Evans admits he almost quit tennis

DAVIS Cup hero Dan Evans considered giving up tennis because he was “wasting people’s money”.

The 21-year-old, who showed new maturity as he won both of his singles rubbers in Great Britain’s Davis Cup win over Slovakia last weekend, had his funding stopped in 2008 when photographed at a nightclub during Wimbledon. He now admits: “I was wasting people’s time, and wasting people’s money. I was messing around. I didn’t think it fair for me to carry on playing. But I’m more mature and more serious now.”
