Tales from the tabs: Riordan to seal deal?

YESTERDAY'S Daily Record gave an update on the Kyle Lafferty saga, and claimed that Celtic could pip Rangers for the Northern Ireland striker's signature "by using outcast Derek Riordan as a makeweight to secure the deal".

The newspaper says Rangers have offered Burnley 2.5 million and Alan Gow for 4 million-rated Lafferty, right, but that Celtic are monitoring the situation and could be about to lodge a Riordan-plus-cash offer. It is understood that Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers are also in the hunt and have bid 2.5 million.

The Sun reported that 38-year-old David Weir will be at Rangers next season. Weir, who has been apart from his Lancashire-based family since moving to Ibrox in January 2007, is expected to sign a new deal next week.

Meanwhile, Artur Boruc has gone from the Holy Goalie to the "emotional goalie", with a report in the Sun revealing that the Celtic keeper "has become tearful at the thought of becoming a dad, and cries while watching soppy movies".
