Stylish Smith leaves McCarron impressed

Lochend amateur boxing coach John McCarron hailed the impressive points win that his 18-year-old Leith light-welterweight Connor Smith posted over Holyrood's Allan Anderson on a boxing dinner show in the Capital's Grosvenor-Hilton Hotel last night.

"Connor was brilliant as he mixed his shots between head and body well," said McCarron.

There were also wins for Renfrew welterweight Stuart Burt over Holyrood internationalist Chris Givan, Martyn Warner over Craigmillar's Jason Easton on a controversial points decision and Holyrood switch hitter Phil Coppola over Craigmillar's Tony James at lightweight.

In a battle of the big boys Holyrood's David Golan beat East Lothian's Gary Fairgrieve on points in a superheavyweight clash.
