Strong Titans tame Wolves

THE Edinburgh Wolves American football team lost their second game in a row, falling to the Manchester Titans 34-6 at home.

The sole Edinburgh score came from rookie linebacker Luke Jeacock, who returned a fumble for a touchdown.

Edinburgh coach Don Edmonston was impressed with the Titans. "They are a big, physical squad and there is no denying the better team won," he said. "Had we cut out our mistakes and penalties we probably would have made that scoreline a lot closer."

Edmonston took some comfort from the fact his half-time adjustments kept the Titans off the board in the final 30 minutes, but added: "Once again we were caught cold on a kick-off, with the opening kick being returned by (Hollyoaks star) Ricky Whittle for a touchdown. Some have said he's only playing for a publicity stunt, but that lad can play, he's got speed and moves and he is a credit to the Titans."

The Wolves head to Glasgow next Sunday for their second encounter this season with the Tigers, and return to Meadowbank for their final home game on August 1.
