Stranraer v Motherwell: McCall confident his strikers will produce the goods
Stranraer v Motherwell Scottish Cup fifth round At Stair Park, today, kick-off 3pm
Motherwell manager Stuart McCall has backed his strikers to start firing his team to victory after a week of frustration.
McCall felt his team deserved much more from narrow defeats against Rangers and Kilmarnock, which sandwiched his disappointment at failing to land a new striker before the transfer deadline. He is still looking for another forward, although he dismissed reports he was close to signing former Everton striker Francis Jeffers, and he is confident the likes of John Sutton, Jamie Murphy and Esteban Casagolda will find the net soon.
His team turn to Scottish Cup duty today against Stranraer and McCall's belief is backed up by their performance in the fourth round, when Sutton and Murphy netted three goals between them in an impressive 4-0 win over Dundee.
McCall said: "I believe Murphy, Sutton and Casagolda, given a fair crack of it, can produce goals. It would be more disappointing if we weren't creating chances.
"Obviously it would be nice to take them. It's the hardest part of football, which is why the strikers get all the money and us midfielders get nothing."
