Stenhousemuir open up five-point gap at the top
STENHOUSEMUIR moved five points clear at the top of the table with a 2-1 win over Albion Rovers at Cliftonhill.
Kevin Motion put the leaders ahead nine minutes before the break but Callan Adam levelled when his inswinging corner went straight into the net. The winner came when Michael McGowan scored an own goal with 20 minutes left, but Stenhousemuir needed goalkeeper Kieron Renton to pull off a last-minute penalty save to deny Kevin Watt an equaliser.
Cowdenbeath leapfrogged Montrose into second place as Danny Lennon's men ended the Links Park side's unbeaten start with a 2-1 win at Central Park. John Gemmell put the hosts ahead but John Baird levelled just before half time. Paul McQuade's superb goal with 20 minutes left proved decisive against a Montrose side who had Chris McLeod sent off near the end.
Elgin City remain rooted to the foot of the table after crashing to a 5-2 defeat at East Stirling. Goals from Colin Cramb and Dean Richardson and a Paul Kaczan own goal had the hosts three up before Guy Kerr pulled one back. Andy Rodgers stretched the lead again before Kenny Wright netted for the visitors, only for Craig Donaldson to make it five.
Forfar fought back from two goals down to draw 2-2 at home to Dumbarton. Paul McLeod and a Stephen Tulloch own goal put the visitors in command but Jonny Russell and Graham Gibson rescued a point for the hosts.
Berwick Rangers beat Annan Athletic 3-0 courtesy of a Jamie Ewart goal and two John Dillon penalties.
The visitors had Gary Brown sent off.
