St Johnstone 1 - 1 Hamilton: SPL survival comes first for Cerny and Accies

HAMILTON goalkeeper Tomas Cerny believes every point will be precious as he and his team-mates bid to remove themselves from the threat of relegation.

The Czech was instrumental in earning his side a 1-1 draw at McDiarmid Park on Saturday, a stunning stop from Murray Davidson at the start of the second half proving crucial.

The tightness of the clubs bunched at the foot of SPL was highlighted as Hamilton moved a place above Kilmarnock into tenth spot with the solitary point garnered in Perth. And, having played better the week before against Falkirk when they went down to a 2-0 defeat, Cerny believes Billy Reid's side have to treasure any positive result, no matter how it is won.

He said: "We didn't play that well in the second half and St Johnstone made a few chances. We played really, really well last week and were a much better team but didn't get anything from the game.

"This week, we didn't play that well, but we're pleased with the point and sometimes that's what happens."

Hamilton got their noses in front in the 24th minute and it was no surprise that the breakthrough came from a Richard Hastings corner. The full-back had already whipped in three tantalising corners before another wicked delivery was flicked on in a crowded goalmouth for Mickael Antoine-Curier to knock in from close range at the far post.

Accies' lead lasted only five minutes, however, as they allowed the ball to drift across the box to Kevin Moon, whose right-wing cross was headed high past Cerny by Filipe Morais.

St Johnstone had the upper hand in a tense second period, particularly at the start of the half when Cerny dived full length to his right to turn away a shot from Davidson, who also sent a header wide and watched as Morais drilled an effort wide.

Morais' goal capped an energetic display from the former Hibs winger that earned him the sponsor's man of the match award.

Saints manager Derek McInnes was full of praise for the goalscorer. He said: "Filipe is the type of player who can really go and affect games. He is a talented player and it's up to us to get the best out of him."
