SRU offers a boost to grass roots game
SCOTTISH Rugby bosses will today mark an expansion of grass roots coaching by taking their number of development officers to an unprecedented high.
With the addition of an official covering the Midlothian area – one of seven added in the past year – Scottish Rugby will now boast a network of 56 youth coaches covering the length and breadth of the country.
Celebrations are due to be led by Nick Rennie, business partnership manager, who is responsible for negotiating the partnerships involving local authorities and sponsors who help pave the way for providing access to players at grass roots.
FERGUS PRINGLE, the only club player in the Scotland A rugby squad which has arrived home from a successful venture to the Barclays Churchill Cup in North America where they reached the final before losing to England Saxons, says he will be happy to spend his immediate future with Boroughmuir.
"I really enjoyed the tour while obviously very, very disappointed to lose in the final as we were really up for it.
"I'll be taking things one game at a time when I return from holiday and will be at Boroughmuir next season."
And the South African-born second row, who previously played for Edinburgh before helping 'Muir lift the Premiership title last season, added: "I see my immediate future here."
