Squash: Trio to take on best in Edinburgh Open

Greg Lobban, Kevin Moran and Dougie Kempsell – three Capital-based squash players – are set to take on some of the world’s best in the Edinburgh Open starting tonight at
Edinburgh Sports Club.

Daryl Selby, the world No. 10, is the top seed in the men’s event ahead of fellow Englishman and world No. 13, Tom Richards. Holder Sean Le Roux (South Africa) is a 3/4 seed

Lobban, the world No. 105, is in his second year on the Professional Squash Association Tour, but showed his great promise with victory in the Imet Open in Bratislava. Originally from Fortrose, the 20-year-old is based at the National Squash Academy at Heriot-Watt
University at Riccarton and is the Scottish No. 2.

Three Edinburgh Sports club players – coach Simon Boughton and his assistant Ross McHoul plus Jacques Lass – are in the qualifying event that takes place this evening.

Selby’s younger sister, Lauren, is the women’s No. 2 seed behind Emily Whitclock. Frania Gillen-Butchert, the Scottish National Champion, also takes part.

The qualifying events take place this evening with the
finals on Sunday afternoon.
