Scots ‘rank high’ in giving to charity

SCOTTISH communities are among the most generous in the UK, new research into charitable contributions has found.

More than two-thirds (67 per cent) of the country have given money, time or energy to charitable causes in the last six months, above the UK average of 62 per cent.

The research was carried out by YouGov and commissioned by Give More, an independent UK-wide campaign launched today which seeks to promote giving.

Campaign director Tamar Ghosh said: “Need is clearly going up in our communities as they have to deal with high unemployment, food poverty, soaring living costs and a decline in resources.”

The online survey was completed by more than 2,000 adults and more than half of participants agreed that need in their local community has increased in the past 12 months.
