Speedway: Kalle's got it all to stay for

KALLE KATAJISTO is the third Edinburgh Scotwaste Monarchs rider to sign up for next season, writes DAVID KINVIG.

The 18-year-old Finn made a successful return to the speedway team towards the end of last season when he came in to replace Byron Bekker at reserve.

And Katajisto quickly showed how much improvement he had made since making his debut at Armadale back in 2007.

He scored almost 30 points in three difficult away matches and Monarchs were keen to get him on board again, especially as rumours persisted that league champions King's Lynn Stars were expressing an interest in the youngster.

Katajisto said: "I enjoyed coming back at the end of the season and I'm happy to be riding for Monarchs on a full-time basis in 2010."

Katajisto joins Ryan Fisher and Kevin Wolbert on the team roster so far. But former skipper Derek Sneddon, who led Monarchs to league glory in 2008, won't be rejoining his former team-mates after agreeing a new loan deal to stay with Newcastle Diamonds next season.
