Speedway: Frozen-out Summers reveals he's thrilled with Brum deal

EDINBURGH Scotwaste Monarchs star Aaron Summers today said he was "thrilled" with his loan deal move to Birmingham Brummies for the 2010 season.

The 21-year-old reserve ace was frozen out of the Monarchs squad for next year and was quickly snapped up by rivals Brummies, who have high hopes of challenging for the Premier League crown.

Summers will feel very much at home at Perry Barr as he becomes the fifth Aussie rider to have been signed up by team boss Graham Drury.

Summers spent two seasons at Armadale and added a point to his average last season, however a horrendous run of mechanical problems blighted his scoring efforts over the latter part of the campaign.

There was a feeling at Monarchs that a switch to another club could well pay dividends for the talented youngster.

Monarchs director Mike Hunter said: "Aaron has tremendous potential, there is no doubt about that.

"He remains very much part of our plans in the future and we wish him well at Birmingham."

Summers says joining the Brummies represents a new chapter in his speedway life.

He said: "Once it became apparent that I wouldn't be in Edinburgh's team for next season, Birmingham was the place I always wanted to be.

"I like everything about the place, the track is good, the fans are awesome and it looks as if Birmingham have a great team for next season so I'm glad I'm part of it."

Summers who celebrates his 22nd birthday in the New Year, added: "I have really enjoyed my time with Edinburgh but I regard this move as an exciting new challenge in my career.

"I want to be part of bringing success to Birmingham and I know I can do well there. I scored 13 points at the track last season, it is a very fair circuit, and I'd be delighted if I could score that every week."

Drury, who was tipped off about Summers' availability by his new team-mate Steve Johnston, said: "I'm delighted to have Aaron on board, I know there have been concerns that his machinery hasn't always been the best but, on race days, he will travel down early and spend time with Jason (Lyons) who is a perfectionist concerning equipment."

Drury went on: "Steve gave me a glowing recommendation regarding Aaron and I'm sure he will do very well for us, and he is looking forward to what will be a fresh challenge for him."
