MoD staff bonuses total £46m

MINISTRY of Defence staff shared more than £46 million in bonuses last year.

Figures for 2009-10 released yesterday by Defence Secretary Liam Fox showed that senior civil servants at the department received "non-consolidated performance awards" totalling 1,594,500.

More junior members received performance awards of 40,240,963, with a further 3,990,953 paid in bonuses for "exceptional" work. Staff recruited from outside the civil service, classed as senior fixed-term appointees, received 838,393.

Responding to a written parliamentary question Dr Fox said: "All satisfactory performers at senior civil service level were eligible to be considered for a non-consolidated performance award."
