Speedway: Monarchs forced to put up prices after rainy season
EDINBURGH Scotwaste Monarchs have reluctantly increased admission prices for the new speedway season which begins next month.
Promoter John Campbell says the hike in prices was necessary after weather forced the postponement of many meetings at Armadale last season – costing the Capital outfit thousands of pounds. Campbell said: "We always set our prices to give us a reasonable chance of breaking even. That is always our aim.
"After careful consideration, we have decided to increase the adult and OAP price for the new season but have left the child price at the same level as 2009."
Campbell went on: "Last year was not a good one for us weather-wise as a number of meetings were postponed and many more were run in less-than-perfect conditions.
"That had an impact on our admission numbers, and dented the finances."
With Monarchs targeting a move to a new home in 2011, Campbell underlined the importance of the coming season.
He said: "We are entering a very important time for the club.
"Our last season at Armadale begins on 19 March with the restaging of the 2009 Scottish Open and we simply cannot endure a loss-making season this year. It would place the whole future of the club in jeopardy.
"We are about to enter the most costly era ever for Monarchs, but also a time of great optimism, and it is hoped we can reveal firm news concerning our future shortly."
2010 prices:
Scottish Open: 18 (adults), 14 (OAPs), 5 (child). League and other matches: 15 (adults) 11.50 (OAPs), 5 (child).
