Speedway: Crocked Katajisto rests up after crash against Tigers
EDINBURGH MONARCHS' injured Finnish rider Kalle Katajisto returned home today for a week's rest after badly bruising his right foot against Glasgow Tigers at Ashfield.
Katajisto was involved in a three man pile-up during Monarchs' 58-37 Premier Trophy defeat when he ran into the back of teammate Tobias Busch and Glasgow's Lee Dicken who had collided in front of him.
It was feared the 19-year-old had broken his foot but, thankfully, this proved unfounded after a visit to Edinburgh's Royal Infirmary.
Katajisto said: "There is no point in riding unless I'm 100 per cent fit and you cannot race speedway if you cannot walk. My foot is still very sore and I cannot put any weight on it. Hopefully the rest will do me good and I'll be ready to race again for the team next week."
Katajisto added: "There was nothing I could have done to avoid Tobias and Lee, the crash happened so quickly and I had nowhere to go." Katajisto misses Monarchs' vital KO Cup quarter-final first leg tie at King's Lynn tomorrow night and Scunthorpe's Carl Wilkinson has been asked to stand in.
King's Lynn are also without top rider Kevin Doolan but have booked in former Stars ace Chris Schramm as a replacement.
Monarchs will also use a guest for Katajisto for Friday's Premier League clash against Rye House Rockets at Armadale.
