Spain in cruise control
WORLD champions Spain began the defense of their European Championship title with a comfortable 4-0 win over Liechtenstein in Scotland's qualifying group.
Spain looked hungry for goals right from the start and got their first through Liverpool's Fernando Torres in the 18th minute.
David Villa, who moved from Valencia to Barcelona over the summer, matched Spain's all-time scoring record in the 26th minute with his 44th goal for his country, equalling the tally of Raul Gonzalez. It has taken Villa 66 international appearances to reach that impressive total, while the former Real Madrid striker did it in 102 caps.
Torres added a third goal with his second strike in the 54th minute and substitute David Silva got the fourth eight minutes later.
