Snooker: Leslie cues up another title
BONNYRIGG snooker star Michael Leslie added the Chesser Challenge Trophy to the under-21 and under-19 Scottish national titles he won in Glasgow at the weekend with a 5-2 victory against Falkirk veteran Bob McCabe in the final at the Matchroom at World of Snooker in Chesser.
The 16-year old won the first frame but McCabe used all his experience to take the next two.
McCabe prevented Leslie from getting in to his rhythm but the youngster struck good form in the fourth frame and, despite a brave attempt by McCabe to slow the game down, Leslie went on to clinch the title by winning the last three frames.
His prizewas a cheque for 300 and he also won another 25 as his half-share of the prize for the highest break. That was a 91, equalled by Glasgow's Anthony McGill, who also picked up a cheque for 90 as a beaten semi-finalist.
Eden Sharaf, from Alloa, was the other semi-final loser.
Leslie now goes on to play Robert Carlyle in the semi-final of the Mpact Invitation Series for the top under-21 players in Scotland. The final takes place at the Matchroom on Thursday, May 28, with world champion, John Higgins, the guest of honour.
