Snooker: Trump looks to make most of reprieve
JUDD Trump came back from the brink to set up a quarter-final clash with Graeme Dott at the 2013 Masters and the world No 2 hopes his dramatic first-round win on Tuesday has resuscitated his title ambitions.
Trump, who crashed out in the first round of the UK Championships just before Christmas, looked set for his second shock defeat in successive ranking events as Barry Hawkins raced into a 5-3 lead at the Alexandra Palace.
However, on the verge of an early departure, Trump somehow found his A game to win three frames on the bounce, the former UK Champion sealing the win with a magnificent break of 107 in the final frame. And with Dott, who himself had to survive a dramatic encounter in his 6-5 win over fellow Scotsman Stephen Maguire on Monday night, awaiting him in Friday’s quarter-final, Trump is confident of going deep into the tournament.
