Snooker: MacGillivray pots his way to opening final of Scottish Main Tour series

Craig MacGILLIVRAY maintained his excellent start to the new snooker season as he qualified for the final of Event 1 of the Scottish Main Tour series at the Q Club in Glasgow.

The Granton ace followed up victory at last week’s Masters series event with four straight wins to set up a final meeting with 16-year-old Dylan Craig tonight.

MacGillivray was on the verge of a shock exit in the last 16. After defeating Falkirk’s Barry Campbell, he found himself 41 points behind in a last-frame decider against Glasgow’s William Thomson. The 40-year-old then made an excellent recovery to lay a snooker and then took a free ball before clearing the table to secure a 3-2 victory.

The scare seemed to help MacGillivray find his form. In the quarter-finals, breaks of 62, 50 and 129 helped him to a comfortable 3-0 victory over Glasgow’s George Cunningham, before seeing off Alloa’s Eden Sharav 3-1 to secure his place in the final.

MacGillivray said “I am delighted to be in the final but I did it the hard way. It will be a tough match in the final as Dylan is full time now and has developed into a really good player over the last few years.”

The final takes place tonight at 7.30pm at the Q Club in Glasgow over the best of seven frames.
