Leith snooker coach Chris Small hopes to unearth another Scottish world snooker champion when his junior training camps are launched across Scotland this summer, writes MICHAEL GALLACHER.
The former world-ranked No. 12 is running four day-long coaching sessions at Edinburgh’s Locarno Snooker Club from July 29-August 1. Small, who won the LG Cup in 2002 as a 150-1 outsider, was forced to retire from snooker with the spinal disease Ankylosing Spondylitis, in 2005.
The 39-year-old, who will also hold camps in Glasgow and Falkirk, said “Hopefully, by starting up the summer school I can get a few more kids across Scotland playing and you just never know, there may just be one out there who could very well be another Scottish world champion.”
Each session runs from 10am–2pm and costs £34 for the four days. A free membership to the snooker club will be provided to participants, along with two hours free snooker. For details, call Chris on 07707 650567 or visit www.chrissmallsnookercoaching.co.uk
